Organising and Learning Vocabulary
Nowadays a lot of people are learning foreign languages, but not all of them pay attention to the vocabulary. However, it is important to develop your vocabulary as well as your grammar skills. There are, also people who want to enrich their vocabularies but they just have no idea how to this properly. So, here are some tips how to be successful while learning huge wordlists. You can
find out which of them
work for you.
So, how
to expand your vocabulary, learn and remember new words? Actually, it is a lot more easier than it seems at the first sight. But you must
take it seriously, because in the other way it would be just a waste of time. Firstly, it is significant to apply new words in your own senteтces. In this way, you will know the exact meaning of the word. In addition, you will be able to use words in the sentences in
appropriate way.
The context is really important while learning new words. Learning new words
seperately won't be so
effective. So, try to create your own sentences full of new word as many as possible. And
sooner or later you will
make progress.
Secondly,
look for grammatical variations of these words. At first sight, it may seem to be a little bit boring, but as soon as you start you will be more
enthusiastic about it.
In details, you have to find different parts of speech of the one word. As a result, you will learn three or four words at one time. In fact, it saves a lot of time, what is really important for students with their hectic lifestyles. If you
make an effort, slowly but surely you will enrich your vocabulary.
Thirdly,
take the time to learn associations and connections.
For instance, while learning a word find its synonyms and antonyms. It will also save your time greatly.
Select words that have a lot of different synonyms.
Do your best to learn as many words as possible.
To achieve your goal, it would be useful to carry a notepad with you everywhere. For example, when you hear a new word you can
write it down into your notepad and then you can try
to guess its meaning. After that, you may
check if you were right. Obviously, you can
look through new words while you are waiting for someone or while you are standing in a queue. It will save you a lot of time, as well.
Additionally, another way
to build your vocabulary, is to watch videos or films without translation and with subtitles. Actually, it is my favourite way to enrich my vocabulary. Also, it is advisable to read books in original. It is obvious that you will learn a lot of new words.
A good
method to
do a revision is to make the flashcards. Actually, this method
works for me the best. So, how to do this? Take the card and on the one side write the word and on the other its meaning or translation. Then it would be
beneficial to
go through these cards on
daily basis. If you
give it a try, you will see the result immediately. You will be surprised that you can learn words
with remarkable ease.
Finally, learn the words again before you forget it.
Revision is one of the most important things while working with your vocabulary. So, don't forget to devote sufficient amount of time for
revision. There is a saying "
use it, or lose it", so don't lose your opportunities and always
be highly motivated. As it is said, practice makes perfect.
